FAQs With Dr. Draper

What are the negative effects of dental implants? How painful is getting a dental implant?

There is less discomfort having an implant placed than having a tooth removed. Implants have such positive effects (maintaining the jaw bone, helping to maintain a healthy diet, bringing about confidence), that I don’t see any negative effects of having a dental implant placed.

How long after dental implants can I eat normally?

You can eat later on the same day! We ask that you begin with a soft diet as a patient is getting used to a healthier new bite.

How long does a dental implant last?

If hygiene is properly maintained, a dental Implant should last forever. I always tell patients that hygiene for your implants is like an oil change for your car. No one ever considers just running their car for years on end without an oil change right? Implants need to have basic maintenance so that they can be successful in the life of the patient.

ARCHPOINT Implant Dentistry

Call ARCHPOINT and schedule your complimentary consultation where you will meet with a patient advisor, then take a 3D scan and determine if an implant solution is an option for you.  * Three ARCHPOINT Locations, convenient days and times to work with your schedule.

Complimentary Consultation: Come at your scheduled time, meet with one of our patient consultants (who will guide you through the process), take a 3D scan (to be reviewed by one of ARCHPOINT's doctors), meet with an ARCHPOINT doctor to determine the best-recommended treatment plan for your dental situation, review the fees and financing for the treatment plan recommended and set up financial options.  Once a patient has decided to move forward, the next step is scheduling a comprehensive Oral exam.
*This is a stress-free, easy and convenient general information session to gain knowledge of implant solutions and get comfortable with ARCHPOINT staff and facility.

Comprehensive Oral Exam to start your dental implant process.  This is about a 2.5 hr experience. At this appointment, ARCHPOINT will review the patient’s medical health history, oral cancer screening, periodontal exam, pictures, and impressions, and design your new smile.  You will custom design your new smile....size, shape, color, how much shows when you smile.  Next appointment: Surgery Day

Surgery Day: The patient will need a driver to take to and from ARCHPOINT and expect a full day (7:30 am-4 pm). The patient will be fully sedated (asleep) by MD Anesthesiologist, our MD Oral Surgeon will perform the necessary extractions and implant placement, our board-certified prosthodontist (who patient has already been working with to design their new smile) then attaches a new set of teeth (temporary, healing set of teeth) to the implants (permanent and non-removable by the patient), the patient goes home in a new smile the day of surgery.

Heal & post-op appointments.  A few post-ops appointments will be set up so we can check on your progress and healing.  Healing time for most implant patients is 4-5 months.  Once implants have been verified to be healed the next step is final impressions/fittings for the final set of arch (es).

Prosth 3 Exam: New impressions, fittings, and any modifications the patient would like to make before processing the final set of arch (es). There are 2 additional appointments after this to fine-tune the final set of teeth.

Final Delivery of New Smile.  This takes place about 6 weeks from the patient’s Prosth 3 exam.  On this day, patients get a final custom-designed set of teeth that are a permanent solution for their dental future.

Eat, enjoy, and smile broadly!  Come in 1-2 times a year for routine cleanings and maintenance of teeth.

Does food get stuck under dental implants?

Generally, the gap between the implants and gum tissue is small enough that food does not get stuck. We do ask that patients clean with a water pic after most meals just to keep that small space fresh and clean. That will also help in the longevity and life long implant success.

Are you put to sleep for a dental implant?

We love having our patients say the words “I CANT BELIEVE ITS ALL OVER!!!”
Our patients are generally asleep for implant placement. It feels like 30 seconds went by for them. It makes for the most pleasant experience. I love being able to give our patients that red carpet experience! And our MD anesthesia Doctors allow for the experience to not only be 5 stars but also super safe.

Can you break an implant tooth?

The manufacturer of the implants stands behind and gives a lifetime warranty for implant replacement due to a fracture. We almost never see an implant break.
